Delegates will look at recently published titles and be given the opportunity to extend their knowledge of a range of authors. Part of the session will allow delegates to practice book selection and evaluation. Delivered by School Library Service librarians. An introduction to Talk for Writing This is an opportunity to understand and explore the teaching sequence that underpins using 'Talk for Writing' as a successful approach to teaching writing. Reading for Pleasure This session will focus on a range of strategies and ideas to support the development of reading for pleasure across the school. Developing comprehension skills This session will introduce activities and ideas that will help develop reading comprehension skills during whole class and guided reading sessions. It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Grammar subject knowledge This staff meeting will cover the requirements for teaching grammar as detailed in the national curriculum and provide subject knowledge for all teaching staff. It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Grammar: Practical Activities This session will introduce activities and games which can be used to support the teaching of grammar across the school. It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Phonics: Practical activities This session will focus on a range of activities and games which could be used to support the teaching of phonics. . It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Spelling: Practical Activities This session will introduce activities and games which can be used to support the teaching of spelling across the school. It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Teaching Handwriting This session will introduce materials, activities and skills that will help teachers to teach handwriting and presentation skills in line with the National Curriculum 2014. Teaching Phonics This staff meeting will focus on basic principles of teaching phonics including progression, enunciation, terminology and lesson structure. It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Teaching Spelling This staff meeting will cover the requirements for teaching spelling as detailed in the national curriculum and suggest a range of strategies and approaches to use. It is suitable for teachers in KS1 and KS2. Reciprocal Reading An opportunity to find out and understand the elements of reciprocal reading and learn how it can enhance reading comprehension. Valuing Vocabulary This session emphasises the importance of vocabulary development in all areas of the curriculum and introduces strategies for teaching new vocabulary through a variety of practical activities.
