Event Summary A one hour breakfast briefing presented by HR professionals from the Education HR team with a focus on implementing a successful mental health strategy in school.
Event description
Positive mental health is key for a productive and efficient workforce.  Mental health problems affect 1 in 4 people each year and poor mental health is a leading cause of sickness absence with estimates that it costs employers between £33-44 billion annually in absence, presenteeism and staff turnover.
 
It has never been more important to understand the effects of poor mental health on your employees and address any issues that impact negativity on their mental health and wellbeing.  In addition, as part of the new Ofsted framework for leadership and management, inspectors will be looking at the extent to which school leaders take into account the workload and well being of their staff. 
 
Education HR has produced a new Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy for schools and academies to adopt as part of their mental health strategy.  
Additional information
This briefing has been specially designed to introduce the new policy and in addition to: 
 
  • Identify what is mental health and how poor mental health affects employees; 
  • Identify the early warning signs of mental ill health; 
  • Look at the current picture of teacher's mental health; 
  • Look at practical steps schools can take to support positive mental health; 
  • identify key resources for managers. 
 
Learning outcomes
At the end of the briefing delegates will: 
 
  • Understand the importance of positive mental health and identify the possible signs of mental ill health 
  • Be aware of strategies to support mental health and wellbeing; 
  • Understand the importance of producing and implementing a Mental Health policy which is a living document incorporated into all aspects of school life; 
  • Be aware of the range of resources available to support employees and managers.
