Event Summary This session will demonstrate how to check risk assessments and improve safety whilst also guarding against litigation, highlighting examples of good practice and common errors with some specific risk considerations for 2022.
Event description School leaders have been at the forefront of risk assessments since the COVID pandemic with new risk management plans to document and review on a frequent basis.

Risk assessments should help make schools safer but they can sometimes become a 'tick-box exercise' with content copied and pasted from elsewhere. This session has been tailored for school leaders without formal H&S training. It will demonstrate how the words written in a school's risk assessments can, especially after a serious incident, be of vital significance.

Delivered by a risk management expert in school H&S, site security and educational visits, this interactive session will help you answer the following questions with reference to real school case studies and incidents throughout:
  • Who can write a risk assessment and when is specialist expertise necessary?
  • How do I know what someone else has written is fit for purpose and correct?
  • What is the best way to structure and write a risk assessment?
  • How much detail should risk assessments contain?
  • How can we best audit our risk assessments?
  • How should we share our risk assessments with staff and others to help ensure compliance?
  • How are risk assessments used if something goes wrong and what impact could this have on school management?
Additional information No preparation is required although it is advised that delegates refresh themselves of their own suite of risk assessments in advance.

The session will be delivered remotely using Zoom. A link to the meeting will be sent out in advance.
