Event Summary | The Teachers Standards state that: if teaching early reading, (teachers) demonstrate a clear understanding of systematic synthetic phonics. It is likely that all those working with primary aged pupils will be teaching some early reading, if only to struggling readers. It is therefore essential that all staff have the knowledge and skills needed to teach phonics. | ||||||||
Event description | Ensuring all staff have a sound knowledge of how to teach phonics is essential for all primary schools, not least because of the current emphasis on early reading and phonics in the National Curriculum and Ofsted Inspection Framework. The need for high quality phonics training has been highlighted in a number of recent inspection reports. In particular the need for support staff and those working in KS2 to have had phonics training has been raised on several occasions. This training, presented by an adviser who has a wide experience of teaching phonics and of supporting schools to improve their practice covers a number of elements including:
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the trainer and to raise any questions they may have about the teaching of phonics. The training is designed for teachers and support staff. |
