Event Summary A whole day course for governors who wish to expand their knowledge of SEND or who have responsibility for monitoring SEND provision
Event description This whole day course will cover?

  • The basics of the new Code, the basic legal requirements of governors and schools. It explains what an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC plan) is, the idea of personal budgets and highlights the key differences between the old and new Code of Practice.
  • Parental Engagement - requirements from the Code, evidence of importance, strategies, key working, systems and processes, legal obligations around co production and publication of policies. It will help governors to consider how they can support and challenge their schools to move towards a model of greater integration of parental engagement in the work they do for children with SEN, and perhaps with all children.
  • The cultural change required in the way schools approach the provision for pupils with SEN. It looks at the role of the SENCo, the governor with responsibility for monitoring SEND and how the governors might work to form a vision for the school which incorporates the expectation that the school meets the needs of all pupils and ensures the best possible outcomes for them.
