| Event Summary | Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are for everyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18. They will teach you the skills to spot the signs of mental health issues in a young person, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need. In doing so, you can speed up a young person’s recovery and stop a mental health issue from getting worse. |

| Event description | This training is provided by Nasen in partnership with the Education Directorate, Essex County Council. Mental Health facts: • One in ten children will be diagnosed with a mental health disorder before the age of 15 (Office for National Statistics, 2005) • Mental health and emotional issues often develop during adolescence or early adulthood. Half of young adults with mental health disorders have a psychiatric disorder by 15, and nearly 17% had done so by their late teens (Centre for Economic Performance's Mental Health Policy Group, 2006) • For those aged 15 to 24 years old, suicide is the second most common cause of death, accounting for 19% of all deaths in this age group (Office for National statistics, 2010). 'Strengthening the mental health training within schools will help teachers spot warning signs earlier and allow young people quicker access to vital support services, including the soon to be established Mental Health Support Teams. Teachers and school staff are on the front-line of student welfare so this commitment represents a positive step and will build on the government's current commitment to deliver Youth Mental Health First Aid training into every state secondary school by early 2020.' The Workforce Development Team (Education Directorate) are excited to provide the Youth Mental Health First Aid Training in partnership with Nasen. These training opportunities are aimed at Essex primary schools and also any secondary schools who would like to train another member of staff in addition to the one member of staff that will receive funded training via the government by early 2020. This will ensure consistent support for children from 8 - 18 years. This training will be supported by a representative from the Education Directorate or the Safeguarding team to share Essex specific information around mental health. |

| Additional information | The cost of the training includes a Mental Health First Aid workbook worth £18, lunch, tea and coffee. Booking information Delegates must request a place through EES, which must be confirmed by the Workforce Development and Performance team prior to attending on the day. Please see attachment for venue and parking information. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time. Please bring note taking equipment. Individual learning needs / dietary requirements Please let us know if you have any individual learning needs or dietary requirements by ensuring this is recorded on your account details (My CPD online, change contact details). Any new or existing bookings will then be updated with this information, ensuring we can support you as best as possible. Course fees / payment Course fees are non-refundable. Your establishment will be invoiced shortly after your place has been confirmed. Please arrange prompt payment. Failure to pay within the payment terms will mean your place is at risk of being cancelled. Essex LA and Academy/Other Full day £220 Primary and Secondary School staff in maintained, private, independent and academy schools. Outside Essex Full day £220 Practitioners who work in Primary and Secondary Schools, in local authorities outside Essex (including Southend and Thurrock).
